Fluid bed dryer

The “THE BOMBAY ENGINEERING WORKS” Fluid Bed Dryer has adopted new concept of GMP Regulation with improved performance (drying time is much less than the conventional model) minimum involvement of manual labour simplified maintenance and utilize modular construction techniques to provide flexible installation options.

The fluidized bed dryer process unit is two piece made of SS-304/316 stainless steel. Through mixing of Dry powders, Agglomeration and Drying are carried out in one unit of “THE BOMBAY ENGINEERING WORKS” Fluid Bed Dryer.

The salient feature of “THE BOMBAY ENGINEERING WORKS” Fluidised Bed Dryer are as follows.
Process Unit
  • The process unit is two piece, made of stainless steel of SS-304 GRADE.
  • All process contact parts are made of SS-304 grade.
  • The finish employed externally will be all welds ground back and polished into the surrounding materials.
  • All of the external surfaces of the Dryer and all non contact/sight parts will prepared with a uniform fine texture matt finish.
  • All of the product contact surface (SS-304) are mirror finished.
  • Particular attention has been paid to reduce any source of material Entrapment by mirror polishing flush all welds to create crevice free profiles both internally and externally.
  • The expansion chamber containing the filter finger bags & dished end are made of single piece construction from SS-304/316 quality steel. Below that is the retarding chamber made out of S.S. 304 Retarding chamber is locked with the explosion chamber by means of clamps. The length of the retarding chamber is such designed , thereby providing extra large heat exchange are which exposed each and every particle or the charged batch in the Fluidized air resulting in instant drying.
  • Specially designed base is provided for air vortex effect and to give added strength.
  • A central drain is provided in the base to release wash water.
Bowl/ Pro Duct Container
  • Product bowl is a conical shaped manufactured form SS-304 grade stainless steel having stainless steel mesh support along with fine finish air mesh.
  • The product container Trolley is of Tubular construction made form SS-304 pipe mounted on polypropylene castor wheel (2nos fixed & 2nos. Swivel for maneuverability ) which imparts rigidity to carry the product container with the charged load.
  • The batch loading capacity is always higher in case of BOMBAY Fluid Bed dryer, because of better fluidisation by varying the frequent shaking of the finger bags. Shaking period vary depending on the nature of products.
Rubber Gasket
A solid "D" shaped food type silicon rubber gasket is provided in the groove of the flanged joint (between the product container and the retarding chamber) to prevent any leakage of air with fines during operation.

Uniform Lifting Of Container
Product container is lifted by specially designed arrangement with the help of one centrically fitted pneumatic cylinder which ensures uniform lifting throughout the periphery of the container which ultimately gives uniform upward pressure to the solid D shaped Rubber Gasket, thereby preventing any leakage during operation.

Auto Shaking Device
Pneumatic cylinder is used for auto shaking device of the finger bags is mounted on the body and is fitted with a wire rope made out of S.S. 304 guided by pulleys thus rendering the shaking extermely efficient. It also brings down the finger bags to such a level that these can be inspected very easily form the bottom of the retarding chamber. If the shaking is not efficient , the particles will be retained in the finger bags and there will be no proper fluidisation resulting in formation of lumps in the products container.


Blower and filter with heating arrangement are housed in the rear chamber . They can also be housed the services zone to avoid sound pollution as well as to avoid interference of the maintenance people in the production zone.

Blower
Centrifugal type blower fan with dynamically balanced impeller and backward curved blades.
All Stainless steel construction.
Direct coupled non flameproof electric drive. Anti vibration mounting and independent sub-support frame.

Air filter
Free standing unit constructed from aluminium anodised frame work (SS-304) with doubled skinned panels. All wall panels are cross based for added strength . Quick release panels provided for inspection and maintenance access.
The air intake section has a full face external flange for attachment of angle intact, or and extended inlet air duct.
Inlet system comprising of 20 Micron washable filter. followed by 5 micron prefilter, then pass through , heating coil section containing a full air duct steam operated heater battery, constructed with stainless steel tubes and headers and a steel casing (SS-304). The moving process air passes through the steam heater to achieve the desired temperature. to match the inlet to the processing unit.
PT 100 temperature sensing probe will be fitted into the air Transtion duct and will be connected upto the control panel.

Explosion Vent
As per international practices the equipment is provided with a rapture disc as measures of explosion Vent, Tested at 2 Bar pressure, mounted on the side of the dryer.

Electro Pneumatic Control Panel
A free stading steel control panel having the following controls.
  • Inlet air temperature controller.
  • Exhaust air temperature indicator
  • Product bowl lifting & lowering valve.
  • Process air Damper regulation
  • Blower motor, start & stop.
  • Compressed air pressure guages.
  • Filter bag shaking timer

Fluid Bed Dryer

The fluid Bed Dryer are most suitable for drying granular crystalline, coarse or similar material in pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, dyes, food and allied products. The fluid Bed dryer is not suitable for drying liquid or pasty materials.

• Fluid bed dryer is designed to introduce the hot air stream at the base of the product container which is filled with the Fluid Bed Dryer material.
• Induced draught is created by means of blower and fresh air is sucked in to the unit. This hot air system expands the bed of material at certain velocity & creating turbulence in the product. The phenomenon is known as fluidization and offer conditions which are almost ideal for drying.
• Fluidization produces full agitation of solid particles and since each particle gets surrounded by hot air, heat transfer is extremely high and uniform.
• The product is dried fast without appreciable loss of heat. Filter bags prevent particles escaping from the dryer.
• Fluid Bed Dryer occupy lesser floor space compare to conventional dryer and are very easy to operate and can dry material in least time as compared to tray dryer.
• In fluid Bed Dryer, temperature distribution through out the product is uniform and the heat transfer rate is very high. High production rates are achieved due to reduce drying time.
• As the product is in close contact with drying air at low temperature and also for short duration, the physical and chemical properties of the products are generally not effected and therefore the dryer can effectively be used for heat sensitive products.
• Due to the continuous movements of product during drying lump formation, case hardening etc. are minimized.

Product Container:

Made of S.S. 316 & provided with the S. S. bolliendr Sieve and perforated plate for proper air distribution.

Container Trolley:

Made up of S.S. 304 supported on caster wheels.

Retarding Chamber:

Specially designed S.S. 316 retarding chamber having special provisions for insertion of top spray nozzles with three different ports.

Filter Bag Housing:

Made up of S.S. 304. Consists of the finger shaped cotton filter bags.
Explosion flap is provided at the back side of the explosion chamber to suppress the explosion pressure within the safety limits.
Provided with pneumatic filter bag shaking mechanism.

Top Dish:

Made up of S.S.304.

I. D. Fan Assembly:

Centrifugal I. D. fan with S. S. 304 impeller blades & S. S. 304 casing. Mounted on top dish.

Plenum Chamber:

Fluid Bed Dryer
Our fluid bed dryer consists of a simple drying unit and helps in the conversion to a granulation or coater when optional packages are incorporated. These dryers are available in standard pneumatic logic and sophisticated computerized controls and are also offered in Steam heated Model. Our dryers provide simple solution to dry products and are high in performance as compared to the conventional drying method in tray dryers, which is rather inadequate & troublesome.

The essential features of our array comprises of the following:

• Variable Air handling equipments from the basic compact pre-filter and heater to the system
• These equipments provide complete control of the condition of the processing air

Cabinet Tray Dryer




A cabinet tray dryer is an enclosed insulated chamber in which trays are placed on top of each other in trolleys. Tray Dryer are used where heating and drying are essential parts of manufacturing process in industries such as Chemicals, Dye stuff, Pharmaceutical, Food Products, Colors etc. The material to be dried either wet or solids are placed in the trays. Heat transfer is by circulation of hot air by electric heaters or steam in radiator coils. Blower fans are installed inside to ensure proper circulation and transfer of heat. A control panel to control the temperature and other parameters is fixed outside the dryer. These dryers are available in Mild Steel, Stainless Steel or construction. Tray dryer is used for drying of pigments, food, bakery, electrodes, chemical and plastic powders.

CONSTRUCTION :

The dryer is of robust construction built on formed angles of 3mm thick sheet and suitably reinforced with angles and sections. The dryers external walls are manufactured from 1.6mm thick Stainless Steel sheets of 304 quality. The internal of the dryer is built of  1.6 mm thick S.S 304 quality sheets. The internal structure is fully TIG welded and all the internals have ground smooth surfaces. It is insulated with minimum  50 mm thick glasswool insulation and Cladded with S,S, Polished sheets. The dryer is having a fresh air inlet through 20 Micron PP cloth filters and a adjustable air outlet flap and a door at the front. The door is explosion proof and is locked with the help of spring loaded ball latches with suitable pressure. Door lips are having Neoprene rubber Gasket to prevent leakages.

Finishing

The design and manufacture of the dryer is of high standard of GMP and has an aesthetic look. It is buffed externally to 150 grit matt finish and internally buffed to 220 grit mirror finish.

Electrical Heating:

The Air inside the Tray Dryer is heated by "U" tube S.S.304 air heaters each of  1 KW.The heaters are fitted on the sides of the dryer to facilitate uniform heating. Maximum temperature attained inside the dryer is 100' C and will be indicated and controlled by a Digital Temperature indicator cum controller over full range of heating load.

The heaters will be inserted inside tubular pipe to prevent it from becoming RED HOT. The terminals of the heaters will be brought outside the dryer to make it more safe for operations for solvent based products.

Air Circulation :

Air inside the dryer is circulated by one heavy duty axial flow S.S.304 or alluminum blower fitted on a shaft of  and driven by l H.P.  through belt. The special design of the Blower ensures uniform air circulation so that there is uniform air current over the entire charge loaded in the Trolley inside the dryer.   The working of the motor is indicated by lamps in the control panel.

Trays :

Trays will be manufactured from 1.6 mm SS 304 sheets.Its dimensions are 32" x 16" x 1 l/4". The Trays have rounded corners with' mirror finish from inside and outside. SS 316 quality is available on demand.

Multi Mill Dryer




Applications:

Multi Mill dryer is widely used for wet and dry granulation, pulverization etc. in Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals, Cosmetics, Ceramics, Colors, Dyestuff, Food products etc. It also finds application in Pesticides, Fertilizers, Spices, Detergents, Insecticides, Plastic and Resins Industries.

Operation :

It operates on the principle of variable force swing beaters having both knife and impact edges rotating within a selected screen to get the required size reduction. Material fed in the hopper, goes down to the processing chamber where it moves to the periphery and passes through the screen radially and tangentially. Finally the processed material gets collected in the container kept below the processing chamber.Output and quality of the final product depends on three main factors : (1) Shape of beaters (knife/impact edges),
(2) Speed and (3) Screen.

Description:

Unit consists of S.S. 304 quality hopper and processing chamber (can be provided is S.S. 316 quality at extra cost) with beaters assembly, motor, reversible switch, DOL starter, four speed step pulley, Suitable screen with painted pillar mounted
on base plate, with castors.

Salient Features:

Direction of beaters can be changed by reversible switch from knife to impact forward and vice-versa. All contact parts can be easily and quickly dismantled and
cleaned. Machine is designed for continuous operation. Cylindrical screen for higher output. Castors provided for mobility.Flame proof electrical can be provided at extra cost. Beaters and scrapper blades of SS 410 quality are hardened and hard chrome plated.

CLEANING OF FLUID BED DRYER

Objective
To carry out the drying operation in proper manner and to avoid the cross contamination of the granules.
Cleaning Materials
Cleaning Agent : Water
Cleaning equipment : lint free duster, nylon scrubber
Method of Cleaning
Procedure for Product to product change over
Clean the body of the drier and plenum with a dry clean duster. Then wipe it with a duster soaked in 0.1% teepol solution followed by a duster soaked in water.

Detach finger bag from hook by opening perplex windows in the retarding chamber

Unclamp the fixing bolts of retarding chamber & allow it to rest on the trolley. Take out trolley along with the finger bag and retarding chamber.

Remove the finger bag & bowel

Dedust the individual finger chamber of finger bag & keep it in a polythene bag. Send it for laundering
Take retarding chamber along with trolley and bowl with hot water scrubbing with clean nylon scrubber. Then wash them with 0.1% teepol solution, rinsing thoroughly with hot water followed by water. In case of sticky powder use steam

Drying
Wipe out the body of FBD retarding chamber, trolley & bowl by using a clean dry lint free duster. Further dry by running FBD at 70°C (without material) for 15 minutes.

Assembling
Fix the laundered finger bag in a metallic hanger around the retarding chamber. Clamp the retarding chamber on the body with the fixing bolts. Lift the bottom of FBD and seal the trolley with bowl to the retarding chamber.
For Batch to Batch change over
Clean the body of the driers & plenum with dry duster
Clean the interior surface of the retarding chamber bowl with a clean dry duster
Clean the interior surface of the retarding chamber bowl, trolley.
De-dust the fingers of the finger bag.
Note
If the cleaned FBD is not used with in 24 hours after cleaning or there are signs of dust or powder settled on FBD, then dedust the bowl retarding chamber & body by using a freshly laundered lint free duster.
